Today's Scripture

1 Corinthians 6:1-7

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Job 14-16; 1 Corinthians 6 (CEB)

When someone in your assembly has a legal case against another member, do they dare to take it to court to be judged by people who aren’t just, instead of by God’s people? Or don’t you know that God’s people will judge the world? If the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to judge trivial cases? Don’t you know that we will judge angels? Why not ordinary things? So then if you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint people as judges who aren’t respected by the church? I’m saying this because you should be ashamed of yourselves! Isn’t there one person among you who is wise enough to pass judgment between believers? But instead, does a brother or sister have a lawsuit against another brother or sister, and do they do this in front of unbelievers? The fact that you have lawsuits against each other means that you’ve already lost your case. Why not be wronged instead? Why not be cheated?

What does this passage mean to me/us?  Contributed by David Tanner

It is interesting to watch people today. Everyone is very opinionated.  If you are a Democrat you are wrong.  If you are a Republican, you are wrong.  Nobody is willing to listen to each other and work together.  We even saw that at our General Conference where people did not agree to disagree.  Instead they acted like what we see in Congress today.  Accusations and bitterness.  Nobody tried to work out their differences.  Love was not much seen where it should be the most important thing.  What a great example we set for non-Christians.  What would Jesus have done in the midst of that conference?  What do we do each day as we interact with people.  How about in our church?  Do we listen to each other and their opinions and try to understand each other or just dismiss their ideas and opinions immediately?  If so, Paul says we are defeated already.  Take the time this week to listen to others.  We may not always agree but we can try to understand people instead of just dismissing them.  Especially in our church.  For people are watching us to see if we really are different from the rest of the world.

Prayer

Help us O God to be willing to listen and not get upset so that we lose the fact that we are all part of your family here on earth.  In the name of Jesus, who loved all,  Amen
