Today's Scripture
power of his name – Mark 3:7-12
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Isaiah 7-8; Mark 3:1-19 (CEB)
7 Jesus left with his disciples and went to the lake. A large crowd followed him because they had heard what he was doing. They were from Galilee, 8 Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and the area surrounding Tyre and Sidon.9 Jesus told his disciples to get a small boat ready for him so the crowd wouldn’t crush him. 10 He had healed so many people that everyone who was sick pushed forward so that they could touch him. 11 Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down at his feet and shouted, “You are God’s Son!” 12 But he strictly ordered them not to reveal who he was.
What does this passage mean to me/us
Jesus’ ministry was closely linked with healing. Healing was needed for both who were struggling with physical difficulties as well as spiritual difficulties. It is due to both difficulties oppressing God’s people to fully live out their call.
In today’s Scripture, we see how people are flocked to encounter Jesus. Jesus and the disciples were pushed by the crowd and needed to get into a small boat so they didn’t get crushed. However, the mere act of touching Jesus healed the people who were suffering. Their disease was healed, but also their spiritual state became restored.
All is possible because of the power that Jesus holds.
It leads to asking, do we see and believe the power of that name?
Do we flock to Jesus, even to a point pushing him toward the lake, just to touch him and experience true freedom?
Of course, those people were more desperate than us, but I admire their eagerness and bold faith.
Prayer
Lord, help us to approach you with boldness and faith to see how you heal and transform our lives. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
