Today's Scripture
Living in light – 1 John 1:5-10
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: 1 John 1-5 (CEB)
5 This is the message that we have heard from him and announces to you: “God is light and there is no darkness in him at all.” 6 If we claim, “We have fellowship with him,” and live in the darkness, we are lying and do not act truthfully. 7 But if we live in the light in the same way as he is in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin. 8 If we claim, “We don’t have any sin,” we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from everything we’ve done wrong. 10 If we claim, “We have never sinned,” we make him a liar and his word is not in us.
What does this passage mean to me/us
Light has the power to shun all darkness. Since darkness is the absence of light, wherever the light shines, darkness disappears.
God saw the darkness in the world. There was a need for the true light to come and shun all darkness.
God, who is light, sends his son to shun the darkness in the world.
That light continues to shine in this world, not only through God, who is the true light but also through us, who shine the light of Jesus to this world.
How do we do so?
We do it through being in a relationship with Christ.
When we are in a relationship with Christ, the light of God shine through us to this world.
Are you shining that light today?
Prayer
Lord, shine your light through us. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
