Today's Scripture

Falling off – Acts 20:7-12

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Acts 20:4-23:35(CEB)

On the first day of the week, as we gathered together for a meal, Paul was holding a discussion with them. Since he was leaving the next day, he continued talking until midnight. There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we had gathered. A young man named Eutychus was sitting in the window. He was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell from the third floor and died. 10 Paul went down, fell on him and embraced him, then said, “Don’t be alarmed. He’s alive!” 11 Then Paul went back upstairs and ate. He talked for a long time—right up until daybreak—then he left. 12 They took the young man away alive, and they were greatly comforted.

What does this passage mean to me/us

I always loved this story. I loved the fact that Paul was able to talk and talk and talk about the greatness of God working in his life. He was talking so long, a person fell from the third floor and died, so he went down and settled the commotion by healing him, and then continued to talk.

When God’s greatness is projected in our lives, we have a strong urge to talk about it and also listen.
Think about the people. They were filled with the desire to hear about God’s greatness. They gathered and focused their attention on Paul’s story that continued all night. Paul wanted to pour out everything to them before he had to leave the next day.
Despite how tired they might have been, they had the desire to hear God’s work in Paul’s life.

Do we see God working powerfully in our lives that we can share about it all night?
Do we have the desire to hear and follow God’s ways, all night?

Prayer

Lord, we pray that your grace will be abundant in our lives, every day! So we can follow your grace, passionately share it, and continue to desire your grace fill our lives again. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
