Today's Scripture

Examine your Faith 2 Corinthians 13:5-10

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: 2 Corinthians 10-13(CEB)

Examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Don’t you understand that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless, of course, you fail the test. But I hope that you will realize that we don’t fail the test. We pray to God that you don’t do anything wrong, not because we want to appear to pass the test but so that you might do the right thing, even if we appear to fail.

We can’t do anything against the truth but only to help the truth. We are happy when we are weak but you are strong. We pray for this: that you will be made complete. 10 This is why I’m writing these things while I’m away. I’m writing so that I won’t need to act harshly when I’m with you by using the authority that the Lord gave me. He gave it to me so that I could build you up, not tear you down.

What does this passage mean to me/us

Paul tells the believers in Corinth to examine their faith. It is not to put them in shame. It is not to show them how they failed. He even says,  “But I hope that you will realize that we don’t fail the test” (v. 6).

He shares how we should examine our faith, to gain the confidence that Jesus lives in us. So that we understand our calling to build up the truth, of God’s kingdom.

The reason for Paul to pray for the believers to be ‘made complete’ is for that truth of Jesus living in the believer’s lives and the truth of God manifested in this world to continue.

How do we examine your faith? Do we see Jesus in our lives?

Prayer

Lord, help us to see how you live in our lives. Help us to be part of your kingdom’s truth. In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
