Today's Scripture
tough love- Jeremiah 50:18-20
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Jeremiah 46-48
18 Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“I will punish the king of Babylon and his land
as I punished the king of Assyria.
19 But I will bring Israel back to their own pasture,
and they will graze on Carmel and Bashan;
their appetite will be satisfied
on the hills of Ephraim and Gilead.
20 In those days, at that time,”
declares the Lord,
“search will be made for Israel’s guilt,
but there will be none,
and for the sins of Judah,
but none will be found,
for I will forgive the remnant I spare.
What does this passage mean to me/us
After Babylon completes their task God brings back justice.
Shows, once more, that God used Babylon to carry out God’s plans.
It also reminds us, sometimes, in order for us to rebuild there needs to be complete destruction.
We don’t like it when all we establish crumbles. That is why we tend to hold on to it, so hard, God needs to force it out of our hands.
The definition of holding on to what has been established is ‘Conservative.’
However, if we realize that God established all we think we might have established, it helps us to rely on God’s faithfulness.
It will still be hard to see how everything crumbles, but we believe that God will make something new, as snow, for us.
Prayer
Lord, help us to see your ways and follow it faithfully. May your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. In Christ name, AMEN.
