Today's Scripture

The lord is my strength- Habakkuk 3:16-19

TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Habakkuk 1-3

I heard and my heart pounded,
    my lips quivered at the sound;
decay crept into my bones,
    and my legs trembled.
Yet I will wait patiently for the day of calamity
    to come on the nation invading us.
17 Though the fig tree does not bud
    and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
    and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
    and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
    I will be joyful in God my Savior.

19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
    he enables me to tread on the heights.

What does this passage mean to me/us

I remember the time our family was in an intersection of life, where we needed to make a major decision.
In that situation, with two options, we surely had a preference and prayed that God will make God’s way in that particular direction.
However, in the course of our prayer, we realized that God asked us to submit to God’s ultimate reign.
It was not until we fully submitted and said, ‘Lord, in either direction make you will be done.’
The prayer developed to say, ‘Lord, even though your way is completely opposite of my ways, help me to rejoice in your will.’

Habakkuk pleas to the Lord for God’s salvation, however, God’s will was different from his plea.
The prayer of Habakkuk shows how he completely submits to God’s will.

“Though the cherry trees don’t blossom
    and the strawberries don’t ripen,
Though the apples are worm-eaten
    and the wheat fields stunted,
Though the sheep pens are sheepless
    and the cattle barns empty,
I’m singing joyful praise to God.
    I’m turning cartwheels of joy to my Savior God” (Habakkuk 3: 17-18 The Message).

Prayer

Lord, may your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Help us to see your will and submit to your ways. In Christ name, AMEN.
