Today's Scripture
Born with a mission – Jeremiah 1:4-9
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Jeremiah 1-3
4 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
6 “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”
7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
9 Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
What does this passage mean to me/us
We are not talking about predestination. God’s plan for God’s people is to be part of God’s mission.
God created us to serve in the kingdom with our unique gifts. That God shares how God knows us by says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (v. 4).
Isn’t it interesting that almost every person, who is called by God, initially says ‘How can I fulfill this mission?’
But God assures us that it is God who works through us and works with us, which makes what seems to be impossible possible.
What is your unique gift? And how can we see God’s presence working with us today?
Prayer
Lord, you are our creator. You know me better than I can ever imagine. Help us to see my life in your perspective and trust in your promise. Bless my life with your presence, so I can be a blessing to the world. In Christ name, AMEN.
