Today's Scripture
Everlasting God – Isaiah 40:25-31
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Isaiah 40-43
25 “To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.
27 Why do you complain, Jacob?
Why do you say, Israel,
“My way is hidden from the Lord;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?
28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
What does this passage mean to me/us
The more I grow in age, the more I see there is nothing everlasting in the world.
Everything has its limits. Nothing in this world will continue.
Maybe I might have thought I would have unlimited passion and energy to serve the Lord, but I see how I can’t relive that time again.
As Isaiah prophecies, “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; ” (v. 30).
The more we see our weakness, the more we need to find the everlasting hope in our Lord, instead of finding other objects in the world that will compensate for our loss.
Isaiah says, “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (v. 31).
Another reason to fix our eyes onto our Lord. I am not suggesting that we will rejuvenate and grow younger.
Instead, we will experience the strength that is provided by our Lord. Experiencing God’s helping hand, during our lives can also cultivate the desire to see our Lord face-to-face.
That is why I celebrate this day, which is my birthday, not a day growing older, but another day getting closer to see my Lord face-to-face.
Prayer
Lord, we desire to see you face-to-face. Until that day comes, strengthen and empower us, as you walk with us. In Christ name, AMEN.
