Today's Scripture
God’s Restoration – Amos 9:11-15
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Amos 6-9
11 “In that day
“I will restore David’s fallen shelter—
I will repair its broken walls
and restore its ruins—
and will rebuild it as it used to be,
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations that bear my name,”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.
13 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman
and the planter by the one treading grapes.
New wine will drip from the mountains
and flow from all the hills,
14 and I will bring my people Israel back from exile.
“They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
They will plant vineyards and drink their wine;
they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
15 I will plant Israel in their own land,
never again to be uprooted
from the land I have given them,”
says the Lord your God.
What does this passage mean to me/us
While Israel was under the threats of other nations, seizing the nation, one of the hardship was not being able to enjoy the fruit of their own crops. No matter what they did, all the crops they yielded were plundered by their adversaries. The significance of this prophecy is to see how God sees our pain.
First, God shares God’s plan for laying the foundation for restoration.
It is God, who restores the foundation of God’s Kingdom.
Then God allows God’s people to be part of God’s plan of restoration.
Not only will they be part of rebuilding, they also will regain the joy of enjoying the fruit of their labor.
It is a reminder that God keeps in mind our situation. Even though it might feel like all my labor is turned into vain, there will be a day God restores the situation.
Prayer
Lord, we come to you, knowing that you are the Lord who sees our every move. Hear the cry of your people and lay the foundation for restoration in our lives. In Christ name, AMEN.
