Today's Scripture
Mout Zion Isaiah 2:1-5
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Isaiah 1-4
This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
2 In the last days
the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.
3 Many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.
5 Come, descendants of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the Lord.
What does this passage mean to me/us
Zion is a symbolic location in the Bible. Not only that it represents the city of David, built on the hill of Jerusalem, it also represents the center of God’s reign to be fulfilled. In Judaism, it represents the connection between God and the world being re-established. To read more about the theological understanding of Zion, click here.
In today’s scripture, we see how all nations are heading toward Zion. It says, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths” (Isaiah 2: 3). All people are coming with the desire to humble themselves in front of God’s will. The prophets share what kind of effect it will bring to the world; no war, no quarreling. When people completely yield their heart in front of God’s will, the world will be restored.
The good news is that we don’t have to wait till that day comes. If we live our days, in the best that we can, to turn our hearts toward the Lord, we will see how God will transform our lives and the lives we encounter. Receiving the light of Zion and reflecting it to the world, is the hope of restoration we should witness until the Kingdom comes.
