Today's Scripture
Humility Honors the Lord – Proverbs 18: 10-12
TODAY’S READING SCHEDULE: Proverbs 16 – 18
“The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety. Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.” Proverbs 18:10-12 NLT
What does this passage mean to me/us
We can always find our strength in the Lord no matter what life may bring our way. God is and always will be our strong fortress. When we are faithful and truly seek the Lord’s guidance, we will be safe in our Lord’s kingdom. Those who consume themselves with wealth and material possessions are placing their faith in the wrong thing. The rich feel safe and secure in their power thru their wealthy status but they could lose it all in a split second, and they would then have nothing. When we place our faith in God above all else, we will always be rich. Haughtiness makes for a very proud, snobbish, and arrogant person. The quality of humility, on the other hand, produces a person with a modest opinion or estimate of one’s own importance. Solomon warned that haughtiness would cause destruction, while humility would precede honor. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, we learn that we honor Him most when we live with humble hearts. This should be our greatest desire, to live a life of humility as we share the love of Christ with each person we meet. – contributed by Sarah Pero
Prayer
Oh, Lord, teach me each day about living for You and setting aside my selfish wants and needs. May my heart be humbled before You as I seek to live a life which honors You in all I say and do. I love you, Lord Jesus. In Your name I pray, Amen
