Today's Scripture

God’s Promises Fulfilled – Joshua 21:43-45

Today’s Reading Schedule: Joshua 16-18  Click to read

“So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the Lord gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

There were seven tribes of Israel who had not yet taken possession of the land that God had promised them. Through Joshua’s leadership, the land was distributed to the tribes of Benjamin, Simeon, Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan. Following the distribution of this land, Joshua was given his inheritance which was the city he had asked for, Timnath Serah in the mountains of Ephraim. The tribes gave this to Joshua according to what God had directed and in gratitude for his leadership into the Promised Land. The final task that the Lord required of His people was to name the Cities of Refuge and to name the cities of the Levites. The Cities of Refuge protected fugitives until they could have a trial and the Cities of the Levites provided the spiritual care for Israel. God’s plan for His people was complete and His promise fulfilled, now that the Israelites were settled in the Promised Land.
God has also made a promise to each one of us through His Son, Jesus Christ. And Jesus did not fail us, even though He did ask His Heavenly Father that “the cup might pass from Him.” He bore so much hatred, so much rejection, and so much pain so that we would have a way to forever be set free from our sin. Through our faith in Jesus and the acknowledgment that we need a Savior, God has promised that we will be blessed with eternal life. We are forever blessed!

Prayer

Dearest Lord Jesus, Your promises to us are never broken and forever true. We praise You and thank You for Your love and Your sacrifice, which we do not deserve. We love you! In Christ’s name, we pray, Amen.
