Introduction
The theology of Deuteronomy cannot be separated from the theme and form. As a document influenced by the form of covenant texts, it becomes a which the sovereign God expresses his loving and redemptive purpose for this sovereign nation. His kingdom of priests whom he elected and delivered from bondage in response to the ancient promises.
The truth that the God, who delivered Israel from Egyptian slavery, is the only true God is enacted to Deuteronomy presentation of the covenant. Because there is but one God, He demands the total loyalty of His people. Because there is but one God, He is to be worshiped in the place of His choosing.
What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?
So God can be our God and we can be His people.
The passage reminds us to rededicate our lives to this concept. We see love on purity with processes governing interpersonal relationships. Care of the poor and widows. We read of the call for justice. We see the reaffirmation in the Covenant of worship. We see that the dedication to God and support for the need engaged in a glorious act of worship.
Prayer
Lord God, let us be people to your word. Instill in our hearts the teaching of those of integrity. Find us, Lord, in glorious worship not only in our churches but also in our communities. And most of all in the relationship with others. We pray this in Christ’s name, AMEN
