Today’s Reading Schedule: Deuteronomy 14-16- Click to read
Observe the month of Aviv (spring) and celebrate the Passover of the LORD your God, because in the month of Aviv he brought you out of Egypt by night. 2 Sacrifice as the Passover to the LORD your God an animal from
your flock or herd at the place the LORD will choose as a dwelling for his Name. 3 Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste— so that all the days of your
life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt . 4 Let no yeast be found in your possession in all your land for seven days. Do not let any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening of the first day remain until morning.
13You must not sacrifice the Passover in any town the LORD your God gives you 6 except in the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name. There you must sacrifice the Passover in the evening, when the sun goes down, on the anniversary[ b ]
of your departure from Egypt. 7 Roast it and eat it at the place the LORD your God
will choose. Then in the morning return to your tents. 8 For six days eat unleavened bread and on the seventh day hold an assembly to the LORD your God and do no work.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?
- God timed the Passover for spring, a time they could travel in fair weather. He gave the Israelites the festival of Passover so they would remember how He delivered them from slavery in Egypt.
- Moses gave the people specific directions about how to worship God and celebrate Passover. For instance, yeast was considered sinful in bread during Passover – Jesus talked about yeast spoiling a batch of dough (Matt 13:33) Passover was a time to be pure before God.
- The Lamb or goat eaten for Passover was to be eaten in Jerusalem, they were to gather as a people for this great festival.
- If you read from Exodus, the blood of the Lamb was to be painted on the door frame to distinguish the Israelites from the Egyptians when the Angel of Death came in the night. Those dwelling in the homes with the Passover lambs blood applied were spared. Note also in Matt 27 that Pilate washed his hands of the guilt of executing Jesus. The people chanted “His blood be on us and our children.”
God gave His people Israel insight into who He is and how His people should relate to Him in the 40 days of wandering in the wilderness. Moses taught the people to remember God’s great power and love in Delivering them especially on the night of Passover. Jewish Passover celebrations are careful to use the elements of Passover to remind them of the bitterness of slavery, and the urgency of their leaving. Christians see Passover as a prefiguring of Jesus’ sacrifice to save those who have faith and trust in Him from our slavery to sin and death. Jesus is the great Passover Lamb, killed during Passover. His blood is on us, marking us as His people; therefore sin cannot stain us. We are saved by the blood of the Lamb.
Just because we love our Lord, and did not cry out “crucify HIM,” does not mean we are free from the ugly stain of sin guilt. My sin and yours is a mocking act against the Love of the Our Savior. In a sense we all cry out “His blood be on us and our children” The glory of Passover is that the blood of Jesus – Lamb of God- saves us from all our unrighteousness.
Prayer
Oh My Lord, what a Savior. How can it be that You would overlook our callous deeds and words; our weakness in faith. Yet every year we hear the Good Good news – Jesus died to bring us home to Him. Hallelujah! In Jesus Christ. Amen.
