Today's Scripture

Numbers 16:38 ESV

Today’s Reading Schedule: numbers 16-17(CEB)- Click to read

As for the censors of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, let them be made into hammered plates as a covering for the altar, for they offered them before the Lord, and they became holy. Thus they shall be a sign to the people of Israel. (Numbers 16:38 ESV)

Our Devotion

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

Korah led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron and questioned their leadership. (Numbers 16:2-3) So Moses told them what they should do to let God show them who would be in charge of the people of Israel. God remained faithful to Moses and clearly demonstrated that Korah and his men were sinning by challenging him.

God snuffed out this rebellion by causing the earth to open up and swallow Korah, his family, and all of the others who followed in his rebellion. Yet after this God redeemed the sinful situation. He took something that was sinful and turned it into something holy by turning the censors the men used into a covering for His alter.

This is what makes the Christian faith different from other world religions. In order to come into right standing with gods in other religions one must work their way into their god’s/goddesses’ approval. They have to do enough praying, giving, fasting, or good in hopes that they will be shown favor. But that is not the way of our God. He seeks out those who are sinful and makes them holy (Mark 2:17) by exchanging our sin with Jesus’ perfection (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our God does not expect for the sinful to make themselves holy. He does not make us work to become holy. It is impossible for us to ever attain on our own. Rejoice! We serve a God who can turn people from sinners to saints.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank you for taking a sinner like me and redeeming me to be more like you. Continue to work in my life and help me to grow closer to your image every day. In Jesus name, AMEN
