Hearing the Voice of God – Numbers 7:1-2, 89
Today’s Reading Schedule: numbers 5-6 (CEB)- Click to read
“When Moses finished setting up the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it and all its furnishings. He also anointed and consecrated the altar and all its utensils. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of families who were the tribal leaders in charge of those who were counted, made offerings.
When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law. In this way the Lord spoke to him.”
Numbers 7:1-2, 8-9 NIV

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?
Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle and the altar within the tent of meeting, since the Israelites had stopped their travels and settled at one place per God’s instruction. They would not make use of the tabernacle until they first brought dedication gifts…rich presents, great expressions of joy and gladness, and extraordinary respect for God’s presence with them. The gifts were brought by the leaders of each of the 12 tribes of Israel. These dedication gifts were brought to the tabernacle, one on each day for twelve days. When the presentation of gifts was complete, Moses then entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord.
Can you even imagine what it would be like to really hear the audible voice of God? This was a great and holy privilege of Moses, to be able to hear the voice of God and talk directly to him. After God talked to Moses, Moses would then go to the Israelites and tell them what God wanted them to know. These people had a direct link with God and knew exactly what was expected of them as God’s chosen people.
Today, some people do claim to hear the audible voice of God. For the remainder of us, we are blessed to hear God speak thru His Holy Spirit, which lives within us. If Jesus had not given His life as a sacrifice for us all, then we would never have received God’s Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord Jesus for loving us so much and for giving His all for us.
Prayer
Dear God, we long to be close to You and to have a relationship with You. Thank You for sending Your Son to us as an atonement for our sins, and for giving us Your Holy Spirit to live within us when we give our hearts to Jesus. We love you so deeply. In Christ’s name, we pray, Amen
