Eric Anderson
Director of G.L.O.W (NExtGen) Ministry
It has been great getting to know the people of RCUMC this last month and I am excited to start partnering with you in ministry! I wanted to share a little about me and my family so you could get to know us better. I am originally from Falls Church, Virginia but when I was in high school I would visit southwest Virginia in the summer to attend band camp at Ferrum College. I have enjoyed playing drums since I was a kid and it has led me to many wonderful opportunities throughout my life. Ferrum ended up being my college of choice; I graduated with a major in Religious Studies and minor in Music. I started working with the youth at Redwood UMC in Rocky Mount while in school and after graduation continued working there full time, with children, youth and in many other capacities, for 15 years. I earned my Youth Ministry Certification in 2011 from Wesley Theological Seminary. Youth and children’s ministries as well as missions are where I most feel my calling. This is what led me back into ministry after a four year period of working in other fields.
My wife Heather has always been very supportive. We have worked a lot together in the areas of youth and children’s ministry. However, once our children came along, she primarily “held down the fort” at home. We have two children. Our daughter Paige is ten and our son Caleb is seven. We also have a two year old golden retriever named LuLu. In addition to spending time with my family, I enjoy running, anything that has to do with history, traveling and cooking. We have combined a lot of these loves into trips where we travelled, took in the sites, and I competed in a race of some sort. Probably my most favorite was a trip to Jamestown and Williamsburg in 2017 where I finished my first triathlon and we spent time touring and experiencing the living history. Our family also loves the beach, especially Oak Island, NC; it is probably our kids’ favorite place to vacation! That’s a little about me and my family, in the coming months we look forward to learning more about all of you.
Again I am excited to partner with you in ministry!
