Today's Scripture

God of Our Seasons Psalm 1:1-6

Happy are those
    who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
    or sit in the seat of scoffers;
but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law they meditate day and night.
They are like trees
    planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
    and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.

The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.

What Does the Passage Say?

V. 1-2 Happy are those, who don’t follow the evil ways but follows God’s way.
V. 3 They are rooted in the water that brings everlasting life.
V. 4-6 The ways of the wicked will not continue. It is like a chaff that the wind drives away, and will eventually fall.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

Sometimes, it seems like the wicked prevail. Even though we know that living for our own will is not what God delights, we see the people who are enjoying their life, following their own ways. We, then, follow, tread, and sit in the ways of the world, which is against God’s ways. (Not to categorize the world, as evil, but to show how following the world can pull us away from following our Lord.)
We recently concluded our sermon series on the call of Apostle Paul. His life is the epitome of following God’s will.
What was the reason why he could follow God, to a point of considering himself as nothing. He had his eyes focused on the eternal relationship he had with Christ. This life, wicked or righteous, is like a ‘chaff that the wind drives away.’ It is not eternal.
However, when we focus our eyes and desire for the eternal, what we want and need will soon dime away.

Prayer

Lord, we desire the eternal love that comes from you. We delight in your love and your love only. Help us to live, as blessed people, in this world, sharing the hope that comes from you. In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN.
