Joyce Blount, 60, a loving mother, loving friend of many children went to be with her loving God on Thursday, December 31, 2015. She was born in Roanoke and she graduated from Northside High School. Joyce furthered her education at Ferrum College, went on to Madison College, which is now JMU, and finished her education at Lynchburg College. She taught at both Roanoke County and Roanoke City Schools throughout her career. Joyce also taught with the REACH program, as well as, Carilion Child Development Clinic. She was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church.
The love of her life were her three children, however she loved all her “children” that she taught throughout her teaching career. Joyce’s love of children was so great that she became a foster parent.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Crouch Blount and her beloved dog, Bo.
Joyce is survived by: her children, Lindsay Ramsey and husband, Derek; Amanda Bill and fiancé, Jenna Nelson; Leah Bill and partner, Meagan St.Cyr; grandchildren, Madison, Jordan and Caitlyn Ramsey; mother, Lorraine S. Blount; sister, Sharon Miller and husband, Chuck; aunt, Mae Overman; many nieces and nephews; other extended family; lifelong friend, Rebecca Ewell; and her dear friends of the “Tuesday Night Gang.”
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with Rev. Seungsoo Jun officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. at Oakey’s South Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.oakeys.com
