Today's Scripture

Alive Again Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

RJ's Devotion

What does the passage say?

V. 28 Jesus calls all who are weary to come and seek rest.
V. 29-30 He calls us to take up our yoke, and follow him.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

v. 28 seems to be one of the most popular verses in the Bible. It is a good thing to know that we have a comforter, who we can seek and find rest when we feel overwhelmed with the world. Jesus promises us to be freed from the bondage of the world.
Did you realize, however, that Jesus is actually asking us to carry another ‘yoke’? I’ve thought we were to take off our yoke and be freed. Jesus shows that true freedom and rest comes from following God’s will. Jesus promises that God’s will and God’s yoke is not burdensome.
By any chance, do we see ourselves trying to take off both the yoke of the world and also God’s yoke?

Prayer

Lord, help us to follow your ways. Helps us to carry our crosses and experience the true freedom that comes from you, and you alone.
In Christ Name, AMEN.
