Today's Scripture

Rattling Feed Buckets 1 John 3:1-3

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

RJ's Devotion

What Does the Passage Say?

V. 1 We are the children of God. That is our true identity, even though the world might not recognize.
V. 2-3 When God’s glory is revealed we will see the beauty of this promise.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/Us?

The Message Bible translates this passage beautifully.

“What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to.

2-3 But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.”

Sometimes, living in this world as a Christian is difficult. When we forget who we are, this journey will be even more difficult.
The reason why we continue this journey is that of the identity we find in Christ.

I am at a conference in Kentucky, and one of the speakers presented a notion of ‘ Believers conversion’ and ‘Lordship conversion.’
Believers conversion is when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. However, he says that there is a different experience or process that follows that decision. It even happens many years after the initial conversion; Lordship conversion.
He said that it is the moment we define our identity in Christ and truly offer our lives to our Lord.
That should be the identity we have in Christ, we are called to be God’s children, and therefore offer our life to our Lord, as a response to that ‘marvelous love.’

Prayer

Lord, we find our identity and purpose in you only. Help us to live this day, as your children in this world. In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN.
