Today's Scripture

God is Trustworthy – Luke 14:25-27

25 Now large crowds were traveling with him; and he turned and said to them, 26 “Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

What the passage says

V. 25-27 Jesus turns around to the large crowd and asks them to consider the cost of following Jesus. He asks them to give up their family and even their life.

What does the passage say to me/us?

What does Christ require of me?
‘Yes,’ it seems like Christ is asking much. ‘Yes,’ it is tough to give up all these.  And ‘yes’ I believe that this can turn away many people.
However, we need to remember that receiving Christ as our Lord and savior, means that we transition from a self-centered life to a Christ-Directed life.

The reason why we follow him is that of the grace to have eternal life is worthy of all things.
But we need to understand, that Jesus does not want us to suffer in life. Jesus wants to take away any distraction that will hinder us from living a Christ-directed life.
So instead of worrying what we will lose, what if we focus on what distracts us from truly following?

Prayer

Lord, help us to follow you with all that we have. Take away anything that prevents us from following you. Transform us as we faithfully walk in this journey.
In your name, we pray. AMEN
