Today's Scripture

A Small World Matthew 5:13-16

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

What does the passage say?

V. 13-14 Salt and light is used as a metaphor to remind us of our purpose.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

“What on Earth Am I Here For?”
Purpose Driven Life, one of the bestseller book in Christianity, other than the Bible, starts with this question.
Rick Warren says that we are all created for a purpose.
However, when we do not understand our purpose, or fail to live according to our purpose, we do not get to live the fullness of life.
People attempt to fill the void through other things in the world, however, it feels like pouring water into a jar with a hole.

When Jesus talks about salt that is throne away, because it ‘lost its taste,’ what if he is saying that our life is thrown into a hole that will be hard to fill up.
What if our life, ending up in a ditch, forces us to ask, “what on earth am I here for?”
Then what will be the solution to restore us from that situation?

The answer is simple, but very difficult: Find our purpose and live according to the purpose.

Sometimes, being able to even ask, “What on Earth Am I Here For?” might be a blessing in disguise.
As long as we are faithfully searching, we believe that our faithful Lord will lead us to find the purpose and live according to it.

Prayer

Lord, help us find our purpose in this world. Give us the strength to fulfill the purpose and be a blessing to the world. Start working in us today.
In Christ name, we pray, AMEN.
