Colossians 3: 23 – 24

23 Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, 24 since you know that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you serve the Lord Christ.

What the passage says

To understand today’s verse, we need to start with the beginning of chapter 3. Paul says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (v. 2 NRSV).

He talks about how we need to rid all human sinfulness. The reason for cleaning our lives is for Christ to appear and be glorified.

v. 23-24 Paul says, in all that we do, and whoever we do it for, do it as if Christ ordered us to do it.

What does the passage say to me/us?

It is clear to Paul that we need to fix our eyes onto the Lord. Especially, when we understand that this was one of the epistles that were written in the time he was in prison.

Paul is asking the followers to do their best in all that they do, in every aspect of life. He tells them to be alerted in all areas of their lives because we are to be a representative of Christ in this world. That requires more responsibilities to Christians. Why do we do so? Because of the sake of our Lord.

We need to put our minds on Christ, being our Lord.

We have to remember that our mission in this world is to follow the mission Christ share in our life faithfully.

May we walk this day with focusing our eyes on our Lord.

Prayer

Lord, in all that we do, able us to glorify your name.
In Christ name we pray, AMEN
