Today's Scripture

Luke 18:1-8

Jesus was telling them a parable about their need to pray continuously and not to be discouraged. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him, asking, ‘Give me justice in this case against my adversary.’ For a while he refused but finally said to himself, I don’t fear God or respect people, but I will give this widow justice because she keeps bothering me. Otherwise, there will be no end to her coming here and embarrassing me.” The Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. Won’t God provide justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he be slow to help them? I tell you, he will give them justice quickly. But when the Human One comes, will he find faithfulness on earth?”

 WHAT DOES THE PASSAGE say?

V. 1-3 Jesus wanted to teach “that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit” (v. 1 The Message).
V. 4-5 The judge didn’t give her a chance to approach him, but with her persistence, he decided to listen to her request to make justice.
V. 6-8 Jesus says, “So what makes you think God won’t step in and work justice for his chosen people, who continue to cry out for help?” (v. 7 The Message)

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

Jesus teaches us to pray consistently. We often experience, how our prayers seem not to be heard. During those times, we do get weary and we often give up praying. However, Jesus reminds us to continue in our prayers, because God will continue to ‘work justice for God’s people.’ This verse shouldn’t be used for our own will, however, it should be a reminder that God is not like the judge, Jesus described.
Keep praying for God’s will do be done, not ours.

Prayer

Lord, help us to persist in prayer, even when the situation seems hopeless. In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
