Today's Scripture

Viewpoints Isaiah 61:8-11

For I the Lord love justice,
    I hate robbery and wrongdoing;
I will faithfully give them their recompense,
    and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their descendants shall be known among the nations,
    and their offspring among the peoples;
all who see them shall acknowledge
    that they are a people whom the Lord has blessed.
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
    my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
    he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
    and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
    and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
    to spring up before all the nations.

 WHAT DOES THE PASSAGE say?

V. 8-9 God is a God of justice. If we do wrong there are consequences and vice versa
V. 10 Then the people of God praises God’s saving grace. God is who makes us righteous to be called a bridegroom to our Lord.
V. 11 The relationship that the people of God, with the creator, will be noticed by the world.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

The passage we read today follows the prophecy known, as the scroll read by Jesus. When he preached in the synagogue and said, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:20). We talked about it this Sunday.
This proclamation reminds us how God is a God of justice. Not only the ones, who live in an unrighteous way will be punished, but also it should remind us that in front of God no one can be righteous. Meaning that the justice of our Lord highlights the grace of our Lord. And it was revealed through Jesus Christ, who fulfilled this prophecy.

Are we grateful for God’s grace, who considers us as righteous, even though we are far from righteousness?

“He dressed me up in a suit of salvation, he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness” (v 10 The Message).
It is God who calls us to be righteous, not what we do.

Prayer

Lord, we are grateful for your grace. Help us to live this day, worthy of your grace. In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
