Today's Scripture

Light From Darkness 1 John 4:7-12

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.

RJ's Devotion

 WHAT DOES THE PASSAGE say?

V. 7-8 We are called to love one another, and the love comes from knowing God’s love.
V. 9-10 Love of God started from sending God’s one and only son. Not that we deserve that love, but we received that love because God gave it to us first.
V. 11-12 The call to love one another helps us to see how God lives in us.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

We can easily deceive ourselves and think we love other people. When we say we love others, we need to examine if we love them according to God’s ways. Loving others according to God’s love is a life-long task. It is to be discovered and learned every day. That is the reason we focus our attention on the unending love of our Lord, learn how to love others in the way that our Lord loved us first; a love that even gives their all.
John says when we love others, in God’s ways, “God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.” (v. 12 NRSV)
God of Emmanuel will be with us, forever.

Prayer

Lord, Christmas is a time where you love shined upon the world. Help us to understand your love, during this time of Christmas. Help us to live out your love, today.  In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
