Today's Scripture

Community Of Light 1 John 1:5-9

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

RJ's Devotion

V. 5 God is light and there is no darkness in God
V. 6-7 If we are in fellowship with God, there is no way we can walk in darkness.
V. 8-9 Awareness of our sin is the only way to be freed from our sinful nature.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

God is light. There is no doubt about how God is light. The question then will be; ‘are we living in that light?’

John says that is only possible through the ‘fellowship with God.’
Eugene Peterson says, “ If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin.” (v. 6-7 The Message).

Fellowship is described as ‘shared life.’ Not only that Christ entered into our lives, but also that we enter into His holiness.
Fellowship, in Christ, is where Christ’s light shines and transforms our lives.
Are we allowing that light to shine in every aspect of our lives?

Lord, shine through us today. Shine your light of Jesus to the world, through us. In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
