Today's Scripture

A Way to Remember Joshua 4:18-24

18 When the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord came up from the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet touched dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed all its banks, as before.

19 The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they camped in Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. 20 Those twelve stones, which they had taken out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal, 21 saying to the Israelites, “When your children ask their parents in time to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel crossed over the Jordan here on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we crossed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, and so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

What does the passage say?

V. 18-19 The people of Israel cross the dry Jordan River, similar to how they crossed the Red Sea, forty years ago.
V. 20-24 They brought out twelve rocks from the Jordan River, as a symbol of God’s active hand working in their lives.

What does this passage mean to me/us?

The ark of the covenant, walking with the people, was the reason for God’s mighty act to be witnessed among the people.
We need to focus on how God commanded them to bring twelve rocks from the dry Jordan River. It was a symbol of God’s mighty act, but it was also a segway for the people to share the working hand of God, in their lives.
When they share what God has done with others, not only their story touches the heart of people, who don’t see God yet but also strengthens their own faith.
However, we see how the Israelites, despite God’s command, fail to share the story of God with others. And we see how they turn away from God. We are reading the Bible reading challenge, in Jeremiah, the people come to Jeremiah and ask, ‘Pray for us to YOUR God.’ God, who walked with the people, are no longer their God because they turned their back from God’s command.

I believe this is the reason why Christians have to share their faith. Not only sharing the Good News awakens others, but it awakens our hearts, as well. And we should be sharing our faith, in every given opportunity. Since we will soon have Rally Weekend, why not take advantage of this opportunity to share.
Remember, ‘Pray, Plan, and Proceed.’
Ask God who God wanted to invite to this journey with God, through you?

Prayer

Lord, help us to share the Good News with others. Show us who you want us to invite. Use us for your glory. In Christ Name, AMEN.
