Today's Scripture

Comforting Presence Psalm 23:1-6

 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

What does the passage say?

V. 1-3 the Lord is my shepherd. He leads me and He guides me.
V. 4-5 Even in the times of difficulties, I see the arms of our Lord protecting me. The Lord makes us victorious.
V. 6 Not only that we walk with God in this world, but will continue to dwell in the presence of our Lord, forever.

What does this passage say to me/us?

“The Lord is my shepherd.”
Even though Psalm 23 is one of the most memorized Psalms, we can easily dismiss how beautiful and powerful this statement is.
The Lord is our Shepherd, who guides us and leads us. The shepherd’s care leads the sheep, so they do not need anything.
However, what happens to us?
We get distracted, so we forget the guiding hand of our Lord.
We like sheep walk astray, from the Lord.
Those times can be when our shepherd’s hand becomes more powerful. Because the shepherd seeks us and saves us.
We would need to ask God to take away these distractions, so we can clearly see how the ‘Lord is My Shepherd,’ every day.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for being MY Shepherd. Help us to focus on you, everyday. Help us to see your guiding hand, leading us. Use us to show others how to see you in this world. Be with us today.
In Christ, we pray, AMEN
