Today's Scripture

Following God- Exodus 40:33-38

Today’s Reading Schedule: exodus 39-40(CEB)- Click to read

When Moses had finished all the work, 34 the cloud covered the meeting tent and the Lord’s glorious presence filled the dwelling. 35 Moses couldn’t enter the meeting tent because the cloud had settled on it, and the Lord’s glorious presence filled the dwelling. 36 Whenever the cloud rose from the dwelling, the Israelites would set out on their journeys. 37 But if the cloud didn’t rise, then they didn’t set out until the day it rose. 38 The Lord’s cloud stayed over the dwelling during the day, with lightning in it at night, clearly visible to the whole household of Israel at every stage of their journey.

What Does the passage Mean to Me/US?

Some wonder why it took 40 years to get to the promise land.
When, in reality, it only takes a couple of days to travel from Egypt to the promised land.
We see the reason of why it took so long.
The people only moved when the cloud lifted from the dwelling place.
“36 Whenever the cloud rose from the dwelling, the Israelites would set out on their journeys. 37 But if the cloud didn’t rise, then they didn’t set out until the day it rose” (Exodus 40:36-37 CEB).

For God it was not about getting to point A to B, it was the process and transformation of God’s people to follow God’s lead. It is the same for us, as we live our lives. It is not about getting into the promised land, which might have various meanings.
It is more about the process. Is God transforming my life in full obedience?

Prayer

Lord, help us to follow you with all we have. When you ask us to go, let us go. When you ask us to stop, let us stop. Until we enter the promised land, grow us in your obedience.  In Christ Name, we pray, AMEN
